EAGLE RIVER, WI (WSAU-WAOW) — The puck has dropped on the USA Hockey Pond Hockey National Championships in Eagle River.
Games began at 8 AM on Friday. More than 250 teams and 2,000 players compete, representing various age groups and abilities.
Members of the Eagle River Area Fire Department were back on Dollar Lake on Thursday, flooding rinks for the annual tournament. WAOW TV reports that this year has brought ideal ice conditions for the event
The Pond Hockey National Championships started in 2006 with 40 teams on six rinks. It has since grown into the premier pond hockey tournament in the country. For updated schedules and game times, click here.
USA Hockey reminds spectators to be aware of changing ice conditions and flying pucks. There is no warming house on site; all fans will be in the same elements as the players.
Parking for the event is available at Chanticleer Inn and along Dollar Lake Road. Shuttles will run from the Eagle River Ice Arena from 9 AM to 4 PM on Friday and Saturday.
