MILWAUKEE, WI (WSAU) A federal jury in Milwaukee deliberated for six hours before finding judge Hannah Dugan of obstructing ICE agents. Dugan helped an illegal immigrant leave her courtroom through a private hallway to avoid arrest.
She was aquitted on a misdemeanor concealment charge.
The conviction is a felony, punishable by up to five years in prison. As a first-time, non-violent offender she is unlikely to face jail time.
Dugan did not speak after the verdict was announced.
A criminal indictment said that Dugan assisted illegal immigrant Eduardo Flores-Ruis out of her courtroom through a side exit when she learned that ICE agents were waiting in a hallway to arrest him. He was arrested after a brief foot-chase and has since been deported.
A sentencing date has not been announced. Dugan’s defense lawyer said he will file a motion asking the judge to set aside the verdict.
