WAUSAU, WI (WSAU) — Preliminary information shows the 2025 gun deer season is just as popular as last year’s hunt.
As of Sunday evening, 777,843 deer licenses have been sold. That number accounts for all hunting methods: gun, crossbow, archery, and sport licenses. Just over 538,000 of those were for gun privileges only.
So far, hunters have harvested 90,671 deer, a four percent increase over last year’s opening weekend total.
Officials considered the opening weekend weather as “pretty favorable for hunters,” with cool mornings and gusty winds in some portions of the state. Though a lack of snow may have been considered a check in the negative column.
Final numbers will be released in January along with a thorough analysis by DNR staff.
