Sean Dumais
WAUSAU, WI (WSAU) — The Marathon County District Attorney has officially filed more than three dozen charges against former Kronenwetter Trustee Sean Dumais, the owner of Central Wisconsin K-9 in Schofield.
The 49-year-old faces four counts of mistreatment of animals-causing death, 13 counts for intentional mistreatment of animals, eight counts for failing to provide food for an animal, and 17 counts of failing to provide proper shelter to an animal.
Prosecutors have also filed a count of theft in a business setting. The majority of the charges carry a modifier for being a party to the crime, meaning they believe he did not act alone. Dumais is due in court this afternoon for a hearing.
Charges stem from a raid on the Scofield business in mid-October, following a tip about unsanitary conditions. Officers worked with the Humane Society of Marathon County to investigate, leading to the removal of eight dogs from the facility. They are now being cared for by HSMC.
Dumais is also accused of taking more than $100,000 from an Illinois dog rescue, promising services and treatment for the animals that were never rendered.
An employee, Kalib Suchomski, is facing a similar laundry list of charges. Both men are being held in the Marathon County jail on cash bond; Dumais’ is set at $10,000, and Suchomski’s is $20,000.
Suchomski returns to court on November 24th. Dumais is scheduled for a hearing on January 12th. Officers add that the investigation is “complex” and remains active. Anyone with information about the business is asked to contact the Mountain Bay Metro Police Department.
Both men face 14 years in prison if found guilty on the felony counts for mistreatment of animals-causing death. Dumais faces an additional 12.5 years for felony theft in a business setting. The remaining charges are Class A Misdemeanors, which come with a maximum sentence of nine months in jail and $10,000 in fines.
