WESTON, WI (WSAU) – A new PFAS water filtration system is now on-line in Weston.
PFAS, or forever chemicals, were detected in well 3 and well 4 in 2022.
Utility Superintendent Josh Swenson said a temporary ION exchange filtration system was used for well 4. Well 3 had been taken off-line because of significantly higher contamination levels. It is now being used again with the new, permanent filtration. The new system, a granular activated carbon tank, absorbs PFAS through a carbon material.
The project cost $6.6-million. More than half the costs were covered through the Safe Drinking Water Loan Program.
