Virgil Thew
MAUSTON, WI (WSAU) — A late 2026 trial has been scheduled for a man suspected of killing three females, then running from police for more than a week.
Virgil Thew will face three counts of intentional homicide for allegedly killing a 33-year-old woman and two girls, ages 12 and 13, from December 1st through the 11th, 2026. A jury will also consider charges for hiding a corpse, possession of a stolen vehicle, and obstructing an officer.
The most serious charge could land him three life sentences.
Investigators say Thew killed Elizabeth Kolba and her daughters in late December 2024. They also believe he locked the bodies in the bedroom of their home before leaving.
He was immediately named a person of interest in the case and was formally charged a few days later. However, he remained on the run for ten days before officers arrested him in early January 2025.
The 48-year-old remains jailed on a $5 million cash bond. A final pre-trial conference is scheduled for September 29th, 2026. He has pleaded not guilty to the charges.
