WAUSAU, WI (WSAU-WAOW) – The City of Wausau has opened a new trail connection at the Wausau Business Campus. This addition aims to provide a safer and more convenient way for people to navigate the area.
The new trail connects Sunny Vale Park to existing trails at 72nd Avenue and the rest of the campus. Initially thought of during the pandemic, the project was delayed due to increased construction costs. However, a funding match program from the Department of Transportation in 2024 revived the plan.
“I know workers use the trail systems on their work breaks, on their afternoon breaks. So it can be a way to get to work it can also be a way just to get some exercise throughout the day, so I think there are advantages to different people in different way depending on how they want to use them,” said Carrie Edmondson, assistant city planner with the city of Wausau.
During the ribbon-cutting event, Mayor Doug Diny expressed his enthusiasm for the new addition, highlighting its safety and functionality. Speakers at the event emphasized that the trail now allows travel from Sunny Vale Park to Stewart Avenue without the need to navigate busy roads.
The city of Wausau says the evolution of the trail system will continue.
