KRONENWETTER, WI (WSAU) — The Village of Kronenwetter has its next Administrator.
Village leaders have reached an agreement with James Davel to take the position. He currently serves as the Administrative Coordinator in Shawano County and has spent three decades in the Military.
“I think it’s a different challenge than what I have been working the last few years,” said Davel in a press release. “In the service, I moved around a lot doing different jobs and wanted to try something new.”
He retired from the Military in 2018 as a Colonel and moved back to Shawano. He has also served as the county’s Emergency Management Director.
“I don’t see any challenges, only opportunities to improve the community,” added Davel. “I believe Kronenwetter is a great community with a great team supporting that community. I also thought it was pretty interesting that Kronenwetter is the largest village in the state and nation.”
The Village Board voted to offer him the position earlier this week, and Davel accepted on Wednesday. His first day will be November 3rd.
The Village Administrator position has been unsettled for years following the departure of Richard Downey in 2022. A handful of people have held the job on an interim basis, including Duane Gau, Police Chief Terry McHugh, former Plover Administrator Dan Mahoney, Chris Voll, and Kim Manley. Additionally, two people have held the job permanently only to resign in the first few months: Leonard Ludi (promoted from Public Works Director in January 2024 and resigned in May) and Peter Kampfer (Hired following Ludi’s resignation and resigned in July).
