Erick Antonio Ruiz Cortez
WAUSAU, WI (WSAU) — A two-day jury trial is scheduled for an Athens man accused of sexually assaulting his girlfriend’s child.
Erick Antonio Ruiz Cortez is accused of assaulting the victims while their mother wasn’t home, then threatening them to keep quiet about the incidents.
But the child told another student at their school, who informed authorities. The victim was interviewed by law enforcement and child advocacy teams earlier this year before police took Ruiz Cortez in for questioning in February.
He faces four felony counts for repeated sexual assault, exposing himself to a child, and exposing a child to adult materials. He also faces a felony count for physical abuse.
Pretrial hearings are scheduled for March 3rd and April 7th. The trial will take place on April 30th and May 1st. The 37-year-old faces 60 years in prison on the most serious charge, and more than 90 years in prison on all charges combined. He is being held on a $100,000 cash bond.
