CHIPPEWA FALLS, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – A jury from outside Chippewa County will hear the murder case against Carson Peters-Berger, the now-17-year-old accused of killing Lily Peters in 2022.
Peters-Berger is charged in adult court with first-degree intentional homicide and sexual assault for the April 24, 2022, death of the 10-year-old girl.
In court Wednesday, Judge Steven Gibbs ruled a jury from outside Chippewa County will hear the case, but specifically where has yet to be determined.
A two-to-three week trial is planned, and has not been scheduled. The jury could be picked elsewhere the trial held in Chippewa Falls, or the entire trial could be moved.
The next court date is a motions hearing on Dec. 2.
In Wisconsin, those ages 10 and older facing certain homicide counts are charged in adult. Peters-Berger was 14 at the time of Peters’ death. As the law allows, the defense requested for the case to be moved to juvenile court. But that was rejected by the circuit court and the appeals court – leaving the case in adult court.
The teen allegedly persuaded the girl to leave a trail and explore the surrounding woods as she was riding her bike home from her aunt’s house in Chippewa Falls. Searchers found her body the next morning.
