Rian Nyblom
MERRILL, WI (WSAU) — A 19-year-old accused of helping another teen plan an attack on a correctional officer at the Lincoln Hills Youth Prison will spend five years in prison for two counts of battery by prisoners.
Rian Nyblom pleaded guilty to the charges in late April. He provided a cup of soapy water to Javarius Hurd, who is accused of throwing it in the face of a female correctional officer. That sparked a chain of events that led to the death of Corey Proulx, who was knocked over and hit his head on a hard surface in the courtyard of the facility.
Proulx was declared brain dead at a nearby hospital a few hours later. His family donated his organs following his death.
Hurd is facing charges for reckless homicide and battery by prisoners in adult court. He has a pair of motion hearings scheduled in October and November, with a 12-person jury trial scheduled to begin on February 2nd.
