WISCONSIN RAPIDS, WI (WSAU-WAOW) – Nearly 50 business representatives from the area gathered at Altmann Construction to attend a roundtable hosted by Wisconsin’s 3rd District Rep. Derrick Van Orden.
During the roundtable, Van Orden discussed he believes the new federal legislation will deliver for local communities. “This bill is an amazing piece of legislation that is helping Wisconsinites across the board,” said Van Orden. Van Orden said the “One Big Beautiful Bill” will eliminate a 25% tax increase, as well as taxes on tips, overtime, and sustaining medical care.
“In the One Big Beautiful Bill, we got an additional billion dollars a year for BadgerCare, for the state of Wisconsin,” said Van Orden. “That is due to the Republicans in the statehouse, and us getting some language changed in the bill in Washington D.C.”
Despite the wins, stated by Van Orden, he immediately received backlash from Democrats across the state, for voting in favor of the bill. Democratic officials claiming, the bill betrays working families and hurts communities.
“The only thing that Derrick Van Orden and Republicans are saving these benefits from is themselves,” said Devin Remiker, the Chair of the Democratic Party of Wisconsin. “Essentially they have set the house on fire, and are handing us a garden hose and expecting that to put it out.”
Van Orden says that he encourages people to look at the bill objectively and understand that their are wins across the entire state. He also addressed criticism of not having held a townhall for the general public yet this year.
Van Orden referred to a town hall hosted by Wisconsin’s first district representative, Bryan Steil. who interacted with a hostile crowd. “I am not going to set the condition for people to come in and show disrespect to their fellow Wisconsinites, it is just not going to happen, and if people have questions just call and ask me.”
