WAUSAU, WI (WSAU-WAOW) – EAA is almost here, which means things pick up here at the Wausau Downtown Airport, home to the AirVenture Cup (AVC), which features about 100 unique aircraft racing over 400 nautical miles.
This year marks the 27th AVC race, which is a unique event primarily focused more on fun than competition. “I’ve been flying for 26 years, and have been coming to EAA Airventure for the last 12,” said pilot Laura Floyd. “This is my fourth AirVenture cup race, so everyone is competitive but they are all just here for fun and the comradery.”
the pilots bring the entertainment, but they recognize the event would not be possible without the volunteers. Cody and Kailey Biedrzycki have both been volunteers for a combined 17 years.
“Continuing to see AirVenture grow is from support in the community, and from AVC getting out there,” said Kailey.
“It has been an amazing experience from not only the volunteer side, but the racers side,” said Cody. “Wausau has been an outstanding host.”
