WAUSAU, WI (WSAU-WAOW) – A local Catholic high school is continuing progress on their new athletic facility, which broke ground earlier this year.
Newman Catholic High School is in Phase 2 of construction of their new athletic complex which includes a football and soccer field, a track and field facility, and a finish of the tennis courts.
Funding was provided through donor support, and the school was able to condense their projected three-year project down to just thirteen months.
“We have a brand new press box being installed shortly, within the next couple weeks,” said Justin Oshefsky, Activities Director and Athletic Complex Manager. “The athletic field will be done in about two weeks, hopefully in time for August 5th, on opening night of football.”
Crews are currently assembling the lettering for the endzones of the football field. Construction is underway for shot put, high jump, and discus throw areas, and concrete has been poured for the new press box.
Newman Catholic will look to get Phases 3 and 4 underway as soon as possible. Phase 3 will include construction of a turf softball diamond with dual batting cages, and lights for night games.
