WESTON, WI (WSAU-WAOW) -The Junior Gold Championships is the premier national tournament for the top youth bowlers in the country. For the first time in history, it is taking place right here in Wisconsin.
Up to 3,500 bowlers from all over gear up for the big show which will run all week, through Saturday, July 19. Dale’s Weston Lanes will host qualifier rounds through Thursday and is one of eight centers apart of the bowling centers association of Wisconsin. “The really cool thing about this event is that Green Bay, the Fox Cities, and us here in Wausau all got together and were able to work between all the centers, CVBs, and all the sponsors to be able to make this whole event take place,” said Sarah Elliott, proprietor of Dale’s Weston Lanes.
It is a huge economic boost for the area, as the separately owned pro-shop inside the center generated up to $30,000 in equipment sales. Local restaurants, hotels, and other businesses also feeling the boost. “They are asking us where the good places to eat are, so if you haven’t seen them around town, you probably already have,” said Elliott. “It is just great for the gas stations, local stores, and everybody here in our community.”
