Tony Haase
WAUPACA, WI (WSAU) — A man accused of killing two people in March 1992 is now on trial in Waupaca County.
Tony Haase is accused of stabbing Timothy Mumbrue and Tanna Togstad after a night of drinking. Investigators say the 55-year-old told them he was upset over the death of his father.
Hasse’s father died in a snowmobile accident, which also involved Togstad’s father.
He was arrested and charged in 2022 after DNA evidence linked him to the crime. He previously admitted that he ended up at Togastad’s home the night she died, but said the specifics of the night were unclear to him because he had been drinking.
The trial begins today and is scheduled to run through August 22nd. Haase faces two counts of first-degree murder, meaning he faces up to life in prison if convicted.
