WAUSAU, WI (WSAU) — The former Town of Bergen Clerk accused of embezzling tens of thousands of dollars from the municipal checkbook could be in line for a plea deal in early August.
Court records show Gloriann Doyle has been scheduled for a plea hearing on August 7th. She’s accused of writing a handful of checks to herself between July 2024 and January 2025, saying she had fallen behind on bills, including her mortgage.
Town officials found irregularities in the books this spring, leading to her removal as Clerk. But not before she had already filed for reelection on the spring ballot. Interim Clerk Amy Veenendaal ran a successful write-in campaign to win a full term in the seat.
The 65-year-old faces a total of 11 felony counts. If found guilty on all of them, she faces up to 60 years in prison.
The case had been tracked for trial. Should the potential deal fall apart, a pretrial conference remains scheduled for August 11th. Doyle remains jailed on a $50,000 bond.
