WAUSAU, WI (WSAU-WAOW) — Signs of life are emerging from Day’s Bowl-a-Dome in Wausau.
A red wacky, waving, inflatable arm flailing tube-man adorns the front of the bowling alley and bar, something that Owner Dean Day told his fans to look out for after the facility was hit with a fire in February.
“When you see him, we’re close to opening,” Day told WAOW TV.
The cleanup process has been long and it’s been hard.
“It’s been the biggest challenge in business I’ve ever faced. I told some people I thought COVID was a walk in the park compared to this,” said Day.
Despite the challenges, Day said his community has shown up for him in a big way.
“I can tell you that the first month and a half, if I would’ve had everyone in the building to cleanup that offered to help, we would’ve had a couple of thousand of people in here, and we would’ve opened the next day. It’s been overwhelming.”
And now, a reason to dance, just like that inflatable red man outside his building.
Day will reopen his bowling alley on Tuesday, July 1st. He says it’s a soft opening, but that everyone is invited. That date also coincides with the start of the alley’s 78th year in business.
A grand reopening celebration will be planned for later in July.
They believe an old light had something to do with the fire, which destroyed the workshop and rendered the rest of the building uninhabitable.
