MILWAUKEE, WI (WSAU) — It didn’t take the Milwaukee Brewers long to find a trade partner for Pitcher Aaron Civale.
It also turns out the right-hander isn’t going far.
Milwaukee has sent Civale and cash to the Chicago White Sox for 1B Andrew Vaughn.
In 48 games this season, Vaughn is hitting .189 with five home runs and 19 RBI. He’s drawn just seven walks to 43 strikeouts.
The 27-year-old was a third-round draft pick in 2019, though his production at the big-league level has yet to live up to the hype. He holds a .248 career average with 77 home runs and just under 300 RBI. He also owns 501 career strikeouts.
All those numbers lead to a WAR, or wins above replacement, near zero.
MLB.com’s Adam McCalvy reports that the Brewers plan to utilize Vaughn as a first baseman and DH. He has played some outfield in previous seasons.
Civale’s trade request came after he was told he would be pitching out of the bullpen for the remainder of the season. Top prospect Jacob Misirowski made his big-league debut on Thursday and is expected to join the rotation alongside staff ace Brandon Woodruff, who is working his way back from surgery.
With Freddy Peralta, Jose Quintana, and Quinn Prester all holding down spots as well, Civale was left as the odd man out.
Civale is due to be a free agent at the end of this season. Vaughn is under club control for 2026 and will be arbitration-eligible this offseason.
