MILWAUKEE, WI (WSAU) — Brewers P Aaron Civale has requested a trade through his agent, according to The Athletic.
The veteran right-hand pitcher is 1-2 on the season with a 4.91 ERA through five starts, but was recently told he will be shifting to a bullpen role with the team calling up prospect Jacob Misirowski to start on Thursday.
Staff ace Brandon Woodruff is also nearing his return to the big-league club, likely forcing Civale out of a spot in the rotation.
The 30-year-old has played for three big-league teams, starting his career in 2019 with Cleveland. His best season came in 2021 when he posted a 12-5 record with an ERA under 4.00.
He was traded from Cleveland to Tampa Bay at the 2023 trade deadline. Milwaukee then acquired him from the Rays just a few weeks before the 2024 deadline. He spent time on the 15-day injured list in May after tweaking his hamstring and made one rehab appearance with the Nashville Sounds.
Civale is scheduled to become a free agent after this season. The Brewers have not given a public response to his request.
