Bennie Green
WAUSAU, WI (WSAU) — Trial dates have been set for a Rusk County man accused of attempted homicide and recklessly endangering safety during an incident on US 51 in 2022.
Bennie Green will face a week-long trial from January 12th through the 16th, 2026. He’s accused of driving alongside another vehicle as the two were driving north on the highway in October 2022, then shooting two rounds at them.
One person was hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries. According to the victims, Green had been slowing down and speeding up before the shooting, allowing them to pass, then tailgating and passing them back.
He sped off after the shooting and led officers on a chase into Lincoln County, then back to Wausau, where officers disabled his vehicle.
The 42-year-old faces 13 counts ranging from attempted homicide to misdemeanor OWI and a fine for shooting a firearm from a moving vehicle. Additional counts include possession of methamphetamine, OWI causing injury, and fleeing or eluding officers.
Green has chosen to represent himself at trial with a standby attorney. He has pleaded not guilty to the counts.
