STEVENS POINT, WI (WSAU-WAOW) – After tearing down the old Shopko building in Stevens Point last summer, the city is ready to find its replacement.
On Tuesday, officials announced a request for development proposals for part of the former Shopko parking lot.
This request will stay open until a proposal is successfully negotiated. All proposal details can be found online.
In May 2024, a targeted area master plan for Downtown Stevens Point was approved and recently amended.
The amendments include relocating the bus transfer center and expanding green spaces.
City staff continue to gather public input on the design of the former Shopko block, and the survey remains available online.
“We have heard from many residents regarding their concerns with the redevelopment of block, the top few being the availability of parking, affordable housing and our homeless population, and the efficiency of our public transportation,” said Mayor Mike Wiza. “I would like to assure our residents that our City staff are taking these concerns into consideration when reviewing development proposals.”
Developers interested in submitting proposals can contact city officials via email for discussions.
