SHAWANO, WI (WSAU-WAOW) – The U.S. Department of Homeland Security recently identified Shawano County as non-compliant with federal immigration laws.
This designation includes two other Wisconsin counties, Dane and Milwaukee.
Prior to this, Shawano County Sheriff George Lenzner said they had not been formally notified of any non-compliance issues.
Shawano County has reached out to federal and state agencies to understand the reasons for this designation. Congressman Tony Wied has offered support by liaising with federal contacts.
Sheriff Lenzner emphasized that Shawano County does not identify as a sanctuary jurisdiction. “We remain committed to upholding federal immigration laws and policies,” Lenzner said.
Currently Shawano County is actively working with federal agencies to resolve this issue.
