WISCONSIN RAPIDS, WI (WSAU) — The former Wisconsin Rapids youth pastor convicted of repeated child sexual assault will serve 10 years in a state prison.
James Lane was handed a 15-year sentence on Tuesday, including 10 years in a state prison and five years on extended supervision. He will also pay court costs and fees and will spend the rest of his life on the state sex offender registry.
Lane pleaded guilty to one count of repeated sexual assault of the same child in early April. Charges stem from his time as a pastor at Faith Reformed Church in Wisconsin Rapids, where he admitted to assaulting the victim numerous times between 2002 and 2003.
The victim did not report the incidents to local police or Church leaders at the time. They later came forward through the state’s Clergy and Faith Leader Abuse Initiative hotline.
Lane, who had moved to Colorado, is the third person to face criminal charges as a result of a tip to the hotline. Court records indicate he did make a statement before the announcement of the sentence.
Terms of his sentence also include a full no-contact order with the victim and their family, no contact with anyone under the age of 18 except for family members, including his grandchildren, and treatment or counseling as deemed necessary by his agent.
The 53-year-old was given credit for 75 days already served in jail.
