STEVENS POINT, WI (WSAU) — It has become a summer tradition in Stevens Point.
For the sixth straight year, workers have installed a public piano near Guu’s on Main. Students at Pachelli High School painted the instrument, and Public Works crews installed it over the weekend.
“This is such a cool project each year. People love this opportunity for public music,” said Mayor Mike Wiza in a press release. “I’ve seen people of all ages playing and many more people just listening. We have a very thriving public art culture. This piano plays a small role in that.”
The piano was donated to the city. The only public expense involves the installation. Anyone is welcome to play the piano during the day or sit and listen to others.
The piano is under a small shelter, but it will fall out of tune as the season progresses. Wiza says that volunteers are welcome to tune the piano every few weeks.
