WAUSAU, WI (WSAU-WAOW) Locals in Wausau gathered at Restlawn Memorial Park for a Memorial Day Ceremony.
Many local residents, as well as fire and police departments attended to pay their respects. Organizers say that they have been planning this event all year, and as soon as it finishes, they will start planning next year’s. They say its truly one of their biggest events.
Heather Carlson, the Office Manager at Restlawn Memorial Park said, “It is a dying tradition if you will. A lot of younger generations do not understand Memorial day or the difference between Memorial day and Veterans Day. So it’s really important to keep this going so that everyone can continue the honor.”
Tony Nardi, the Wausau American Legion Post Commander added, “Through al the different trial and tribulations that we go through the community is always strong, the community always rally’s and provides support for each other”
Organizers notes that the turnout proved how important this event is to the community.
