
Lolipa “Israel" Tambwe
WAUSAU, WI (WSAU) — Services were held today for Lolipa “Israel” Tambwe, the 16-year-old who drowned in the Wisconsin River on May 11th.
The service began at 10 AM at First United Methodist Church in Wausau in Swahili and English. Burial was held at Pine Grove Cemetery in the afternoon.
Tambwe came to Wausau with his family through the ECDC refugee resettlement program in April 2024. He was active in First United Methodist Church, playing the piano and translating the service from English to Swahili.
He was attending Wausau East High School and played soccer.
According to his obituary, “Israel will be remembered for his kindness, talent, and unwavering joy. He brought light wherever he went and leaves a legacy of faith and love.”
