STEVENS POINT, WI (WSAU) — A former Central Wisconsin resident will spend ten years in prison after he was found guilty of battery and sexual assault against his former live-in girlfriend.
Andrew Ostrowski was sentenced on Tuesday to ten years without credit for time served and another eight years on extended supervision. According to a press release from Portage County District Attorney Cass Cousins, the 45-year-old will also have to register as a sex offender for the rest of his life.
The victim, who was not identified, said Ostrowski repeatedly beat and strangled her in their home for several hours one night, causing her to go in and out of consciousness several times. During the trial, the woman said she feared for her life and was only able to get away after Ostrowski left for work.
No further information regarding Ostrowski’s sentence was released. District Attorney Cousins released the following statement after the sentencing was handed down:
“I would like to first express my appreciation to the jury for their careful consideration of the facts surrounding this terribly violent episode. I also recognize the officers with the Stevens Point Police Department for their thorough investigation of these serious crimes and the compassion and concern they showed the victim at every point in the investigation. The Portage County District Attorney’s Office, and every Portage County Law Enforcement Agency, aggressively investigates and prosecutes men who beat and/or sexually assault women. If you know of somebody who may be a victim of domestic violence, please encourage that person to each out to Law Enforcement in their community.”
