WAUSAU, WI (WSAU-WAOW) – The Wausau Police Department is investigating the drowning death of a 16-year-old boy. His body was recovered Sunday evening from the Wisconsin River near downtown Wausau.
On May 11 around 8:30pm Wausau Police and Fire personnel responded to a report of a possible drowning near the boat and kayak dock on North River Drive. Witnesses said the teen entered the river from the dock and did not resurface.
Wausau Fire personnel located and recovered the teen approximately 40 minutes later near where he was last seen. Life-saving efforts were initiated and continued during transport to a local hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.
Preliminary findings do not indicate foul play, but the incident remains under investigation.
The victim’s name has not been released.
