STEVENS POINT, Wis. (WAOW-WSAU) – An organization at UW-Stevens Point held its 50th annual history powwow.
The student-led American Indians Reaching for Opportunities Powwow is supported by the UWSP Native American Center. This was the 50th year of the annual powwow, which featured dancers, musicians, and speakers who shared all kinds of history.
Abby Page, the Vice President for AIRO, said, “It’s huge, it means everything. It’s 50 years of being in this space and being who we are authentically and traditionally. It’s also a great way to build relations, build connections and introduce the culture to people who have never been here.”
The student volunteers say their favorite part is the grand entrance dance and the energy it brings.
