WAUSAU, WI (WSAU) — The former Town of Bergen Clerk will not get a reduced bond as she faces nearly a dozen felony counts related to the theft of thousands of dollars in public funds.
This week, Gloriann Doyle was in court for a brief bond modification hearing, which Judge Gregory Strasser denied. Records show her legal team and the state made statements on the request, along with a victim impact statement.
The 65-year-old will remain jailed on a $50,000 bond and returns to court on May 12th to enter a plea.
Investigators say Doyle wrote several unauthorized checks to herself between July 2024 and January 2025, saying she had fallen behind on her personal expenses, including her mortgage, and was using the funds to catch up.
She’s also accused of embezzling funds from the Wisconsin Valley Art Association while she served on their board.
Doyle resigned as Town Clerk shortly after the accusations came to light this spring. But it was too late to have her name removed from the April 1st ballot. Interim Clerk Amy Veneedaal ran a write-in campaign and defeated Doyle. She has since been sworn in as the permanent Clerk.
