STEVENS POINT, WI (WSAU-WAOW) – Law enforcement, first responders, and a local school teamed up in Portage County on Monday for a new initiative.
They put together first-aid bags for students and school staff in case the worst happens.
Each kit contains multiple sets of gloves, tourniquets, chest seals, gauze, and bandage wraps.
Leaders stressed every life is valuable and worth saving so it’s best to be prepared for anything. “Obviously, god forbid this ever happens in any of our schools, but if it does, we want to try to save as many lives as possible,” said Lt. Joe Johnson with the Stevens Point Police Department. “This is just one little piece of the puzzle. Obviously there’s all sorts of training that we have to do to try to be prepared. Our staff needs to be prepared, and our students and staff needs to be prepared.”
Lt. Johnson saying they’re working to have every school in Portage County outfitted with these kits by the beginning of the next school year.
