CHIPPEWA FALLS, WI (WSAU) โ A change of venue request for the homicide case against Carson Peters-Berger has been denied.
Court documents released on Wednesday show that the state objected to moving the case out of Chippewa County, saying that the 17-year-oldโs defense team should draft a potential juror questionnaire โto deal with any potential issues of prejudice or juror bias.โ
Peters-Bergerโs defense said they didnโt feel he would get a fair trial due to the nature of the case and media coverage. Heโs accused of beating and killing Lily Peters three years ago as he was accompanying her home following a visit to her auntโs house.
Police say he admitted to killing her, saying he had been planning the attack and wanted to know what it felt like to take a life.
Peters-Berger is due back in court for a hearing on June 9th. No trial dates have been set, but Chippewa County Judge Steven Gibbs previously surmised it could come in early 2026.
He faces three felony counts for homicide, sexual assault causing great bodily harm, and sexual assault of a person under the age of 13. Two of those counts carry a mandatory life sentence with only the possibility of parole.
