MILWAUKEE, WI (WSAU) – The Milwaukee Brewers defeated the Detroit Tigers 5-1 on Wednesday afternoon to take the series and keep pace with the red-hot Cincinnati Reds and Chicago Cubs in the NL Central.
The Brewers used home runs from outfielder Christian Yelich, first baseman Rhys Hoskins, and outfielder Sal Frelick to take and hold the lead against the Tigers, who struggled to get anything going offensively on Wednesday after getting shut out on Tuesday night, 5-0.
Hoskins went two for three on the day with two RBIs, while Yelich ended his recent slump, going two for four with one RBI.
Jose Quintana got the start for Milwaukee and went five innings, allowing just one earned run and four hits, while Keider Montero got the start for the Tigers, allowing five earned runs on eight hits.
Up next, the Brewers will welcome the Athletics to Milwaukee for a three-game weekend series starting on Friday night. Freddy Peralta will take the mound for Milwaukee, while the A’s are yet to name a starter.
