WAUSAU, WI (WSAU) — A portion of Washington Street is closed to traffic while crews work on the infrastructure around the Foundry on 3rd development.
Crews have shut down the western portion of Washington Street as of Monday morning. The only open portion is the access to the JC Penny parking ramp.
Washington does remain open at the intersection with 3rd Street. That phase of the project will begin later.
To help downtown patrons navigate the closer, the city has suspended parking fees for the JC Penny ramp. Anyone can park for free at any time by entering from Washington Street, though the only available exit will be the Forest Street exit.
The project will see Washington Street reconfigured for two-way traffic, creating “an inviting and unique streetscape.” More information can be found in the video below:
