(GREEN BAY PACKERS) – The Green Bay Packers have signed guard Aaron Banks. The transaction was announced Tuesday by General Manager Brian Gutekunst.
Banks (6-5, 325), a fifth-year player out of the University of Notre Dame, was originally selected in the second round (No. 48 overall) of the 2021 NFL Draft by the San Francisco 49ers.
He appeared in 53 games with 43 starts (all at left guard) in his four seasons with the 49ers as well as seven postseason contests with six starts. During his three seasons as a starter (2022-24), Banks was part of a line that helped San Francisco rank No. 2 in the NFL over that span in total offense (380.1 ypg), No. 1 in yards per play (6.3), No. 3 in yards per carry (4.73 avg.), tied for No. 5 in sacks allowed (101) and No. 6 in rushing offense (135.5 ypg).
In 2023, he started 16 games as the 49ers became the first team in NFL history to feature a running back (Christian McCaffrey), two wide receivers (Brandon Aiyuk and Deebo Samuel) and a tight end (George Kittle) each post 1,000-plus yards from scrimmage in a single season.
