WAUSAU, WI (WSAU) – A new poll indicates that the race to be Wisconsin’s next Supreme Court Justice remains close as the candidates prepare to debate on Wednesday night.
According to the poll by OnMessage, former state Attorney General Brad Schimel and Judge Susan Crawford are tied at 47%, while 5% of respondents remain undecided about who they’ll support come election day.
When broken down by favorability rating, Schimel had a 45% positive image among the 600 likely voters surveyed, while Crawford also came in at 45%. However, Schimel held a slight advantage on the issues that matter most, as “fighting to uphold the rule of law” was rated as the top issue for the respondents at 37%, while “reducing crime and keeping violent criminals off the streets” came in second at 20%.
This poll comes as the latest Marquette law poll released last week found Schimel is viewed favorably by 42% of respondents, while 43% have an unfavorable opinion. Meanwhile, the same group gave Crawford a 33% approval rating while 32% viewed her unfavorably. Overall, 38% of respondents didn’t have an opinion of Schimel, while 57% said they didn’t have an opinion of Crawford.
The debate is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. on Channel 14 for Charter customers and channel 35 for TDS customers.
