MADISON, WI (WSAU-WAOW) – The Wisconsin State Department of Justice announced on Monday that a former Lincoln County correctional sergeant was charged with assaulting an inmate.
In a release, they say Jason Meister, 44, of Pearson, was charged with one count of abuse of residents of penal facilities. And one count of substantial battery for allegedly assaulting an inmate at the Lincoln County Jail.
According to the criminal complaint, in late February, Meister assaulted the inmate in their cell, which required them to receive medical attention. The inmate had two broken ribs, and needed stitches above their eye.
The DOJ says surveillance video captured the assault.
Following an investigation, Meister was fired by the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Department.
