GREEN BAY, WI (WSAU) – The Green Bay Packers have reportedly engaged in trade discussions with the Seattle Seahawks, which would send one of the league’s top receivers to the Tundra.
According to Fox 13 Seattle’s Corbin K. Smith, the Packers have been in talks with the Seahawks to complete a trade that would send D.K. Metcalf to Green Bay in exchange for a “high draft pick and young receiver on the roster.” Smith further stated that the young receiver Seattle is looking to receive in the deal would have to be either Romeo Doubs or Dontayvion Wicks, and the high draft pick would likely be the Packers first-round pick at 23rd overall.
Packers insider Peter Bukowski posted on X that he can confirm Smith’s reporting that the Packers hope to trade cornerback Jaire Alexander after acquiring Metcalf to recoup the draft capital they’d send to Seattle in the deal.
Metcalf signed a three-year, $72 million contract with the Seattle Seahawks in the summer of 2022, which includes a $30 million signing bonus and $31 million guaranteed. As it currently stands in 2025, Metcalf’s base salary is $18 million, but his cap hit will be $31.875 million. However, it’s expected that the Packers and Metcalf would work out a long-term extension if the deal ends up being completed.
Based on recent NFL contract extensions, Metcalf will be looking to be paid as a top-five receiver in the league, surpassing 49ers receiver Brandon Aiyuk’s four-year, $120 million contract, with $76 million guaranteed, that was signed last summer, and Amon-Ra St. Brown’s current four-year, $120.01 million contract, with $77 million guaranteed.
Metcalf, who was a 2nd round pick by Seattle in the 2019 NFL Draft, recorded 66 catches for 992 yards and five touchdowns for the Seahawks in 2024 after putting together a stellar 2023 season that included him catching 119 passes for 1,114 yards and eight touchdowns.
