WISCONSIN RAPIDS, WI (WSAU) — A Wood County jail inmate accused of plotting to kill correctional officers had the charges against him dismissed and was sentenced for different counts on Thursday.
Jesse Hansen Schumann will serve one year in state prison and three years on extended supervision after pleading no contest to one count of battery by prisoners and guilty for obstructing an officer. A third count was dismissed but read into the record.
Those charges were filed on November 9th, 2023, roughly two months after he was accused of plotting to kill two Correctional Officers who he said were unfair to him. Another inmate said Hansen Schumann wanted him to help carry out the plot.
Court records show those charges, which could have come with a life sentence, were dismissed during Thursday’s sentencing. A third case involving misdemeanor disorderly conduct was also dismissed but read into the record.
The 34-year-old was already serving time for previous charges related to disorderly conduct and battery or threats to a judge, prosecutor, or law enforcement officer. Those stemmed from a 2021 incident.
