GREEN BAY, WI (WSAU) – The Green Bay Packers have reportedly begun discussing possible trade packages with teams involving one of the franchise’s biggest stars.
According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, the Packers have spoken to teams interested in acquiring cornerback Jaire Alexander and are willing to trade him “for the right price.”
Alexander, 28, is expected to be one of the biggest defensive names available on the trade market this offseason alongside Cleveland Browns star pass rusher Myles Garrett despite Alexander struggling with injuries over the last two seasons that caused him to miss 16 games.
One of the main hurdles that the Packers and a possible trade partner would need to figure out is his contract, as Alexander signed a four-year, $84 million contract extension with the Packers in the spring of 2022, which still has two years remaining on it and would pay him $16.15 million in 2025. In total, Alexander’s contract has him currently set up to count for over $50 million against the cap for whichever team he plays for next season.
During his press conference at the NFL Combine on Tuesday, GM Brian Gutekunst spoke about Alexander’s future with the team with the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel’s Tom Silverstein, saying, “We’ll see, we’re working through that. We’ll work through that as we go along.”
“He loves Green Bay. He has a lot of energy when he’s in the building. He’s still around. We’ll work through that and see where that leads,” Gutekunst continued.
The Packers have started looking at the cornerbacks that will be available during the 2025 NFL draft, as the team reportedly met with Louisville cornerback Quincy Riley, Kansas State cornerback Jacob Parrish, and UCF cornerback Mac McWilliams during the Senior Bowl last month. All three of those prospects are projected to be day three selections.
