Bodycam image of officer involved death investigation in Grand Rapids, WI
GRAND RAPIDS, WI (WSAU-WAOW) – The Wood County district attorney announced charges will not be filed against officers involved in a woman’s death.
In a release, authorities say on December 8, police responded to a home in Grand Rapids following a 911 call from Sewayna Bombagi.
When they arrived for a welfare check, police say she resisted officers. That’s when they took her into custody in the front yard.
Body camera video released by the Wisconsin State Department of Justice shows the scene as it unfolded. “What are you doing?” Bombagi asks officers in the video. “Get on the ground!” respond the officers. “Get on the ground right now.”
“Help me!” yells Bombagi. “Help me.” An officer repeats their command.
Shortly after, police say Bombagi became unresponsive. She was taken to an area hospital for a possible overdose where she died. Toxicology reports showed Bombagi’s amphetamine levels were in the range of overdose deaths.
