WAUSAU, WI (WSAU) — The Wausau Curling Club will host the State Boy’s and Girl’s Championships Friday through Saturday.
Wausau East and West will have teams in the field along with D.C. Everest. Stevens Point, Medford, and Marshfield will also be represented. The rest of the 32-team field will be rounded out with squads from as far away as Kimberly, Bloomer, and Monona Grove.
The Wausau West Boys and Poynette Girls are defending state champions.
Wisconsin has contested an organized boy’s high school curling tournament since 1959. The girl’s tournament was added in ’76.
Schools from the Wausau area have won 12 girl’s state titles and 11 boy’s championships.
Representatives from Wausau West and Portage High Schools will serve as event coordinators. Curling begins Friday morning with the last draws of the day scheduled for 6:30. The action resumes Saturday at 8 AM with the finals beginning at 4:30.
Admission for the event is free.
