WAUSAU, WI (WSAU) — The Wausau School Board will sell the soon-to-be vacated elementary school buildings as part of a consolidation plan.
The board unanimously approved the move, which comes as Hewitt-Texas, Hawthorn Hills, Grant, and Lincoln will be taken out of service at the end of the current academic year. Lincoln will be converted to a 4K location for students on the west side of the river.
The remaining three schools; Hewitt-Texas, Hawthorn Hills, and Grant will all be sold. District leaders previously said they have already been contacted by community members who would be interested in purchasing the properties.
Monday’s motion allows Administrators to use a Realtor to assist in the sales process at their discretion. The vote passed with little discussion. Monday’s agenda did not include any specific proposals.
Board members also approved the new Elementary School boundaries as presented but made one change to the line between Franklin and John Marshall: altering the boundary to follow Forest Street to the river. To see the new boundaries, click here.
The changes will go into effect with the start of the 2025-’26 academic year.
