WISCONSIN RAPIDS, WI (WSAU) — A former coach at Assumption High School is set to be sentenced on Monday for five counts of capturing an intimate representation.
Seth Milkey will be in a Wisconsin Rapids courtroom where he faces up to 17.5 years in prison and thousands in fines as part of a plea deal that dismissed five additional counts.
Charges stem from images of students found on Milkey’s laptop last spring. When he was confronted with them, he became defensive and allegedly threatened to kill himself. Officers arrived at his home for a welfare check and discovered the images of at least 10 students on an external hard drive.
Investigators learned the images were taken by a hidden camera set up in a bathroom at Milkey’s home. The Catholic Diocese of La Crosse released a statement shortly after the charges came to light, saying they have cooperated with the investigation. They added that Milkey passed all of their background checks “before and during” his time as a coach with the school. The statement added that having students visit him at his home for counseling was a “clear and troubling violation of diocesan and school policy.”
The images were taken between 2019-2023. The 34-year-old left his position at Assumption in 2021 to pursue other opportunities.
