WAUSAU, WI (WSAU) — The Wausau Softball Club is one step closer to finding its permanent name.
The final four names were released today, with fans encouraged to vote for names in two head-to-head matchups. Those are:
Sunnies versus Ignite
Buckthorn Bandits versus Polar Owls
Trademark issues with some proposed names left the team with these four finalists. The winners will be announced at a later date.
No matter which name is chosen, the Wausau club will join four established NWL Softball teams for the league’s second season this summer. The season will open June 10th when Wausau hosts the La Crosse Steam at Athletic Park followed by four games against the Madison Night Mares; three in Wausau and one in Madison.
The season concludes in La Crosse on August 1st.
Mankato won the inaugural NWL Softball season with a record of 31-11.
