MANITOWOC, WI—Farm Wisconsin Discovery Center announces the return of its highly anticipated Alpaca Llama Extravaganza on Saturday, February 1, 2025. This family-friendly event provides a unique opportunity to meet alpacas and llamas up close and explore the fascinating world of fiber production. The event will take place from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.
In partnership with LondonDairy Alpaca Ranch and Black Frog Farm, visitors can pet, photograph, and interact with these furry visitors throughout the event. Experts from both farms will be on site to share their knowledge about raising these animals, the versatile uses of their unique fiber, and how to tell the difference between these cousin species.
“We are grateful for partnerships with farms such as LondonDairy Alpacas and Black Frog Farm that provide our guests memorable, hands-on moments with farm animals,” shares Abigail Winkel, Farm Wisconsin brand manager. “For many of our visitors, Alpaca Llama Extravaganza offers a first-time opportunity to pet and interact with both an alpaca and a llama.”
Adding to the experience, attendees can watch several fiber arts demonstrations. A spinning presentation will showcase how natural fiber is carefully transformed into yarn, while a felting demonstration will showcase how fiber can be used as a crafting medium. Various high-quality alpaca and llama-based products will also be available to purchase.
All Alpaca Llama Extravaganza activities are included in the price of general admission to Farm Wisconsin. Tickets can be purchased in advance online or at the reception desk upon arrival.
For guests looking for a more in-depth fiber experience, a Yarn Hand Dyeing workshop will be held from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Led by experts from Hidden Valley Farm and Woolen Mill, participants will dye two natural skeins of wool yarn to take home at the conclusion of the morning. During the workshop, attendees will learn how members of the Hidden Valley team care for their flock of sheep, collect the wool, and spin it into yarn. Yarn for the class will be sourced directly from the Hidden Valley flock.
Tickets for the Yarn Hand Dyeing workshop are $62 for Farm Wisconsin members and $65 for non-Farm Wisconsin members. Ticket prices include admission to the discovery center and the Alpaca Llama Extravaganza. Spots are limited—early registration is encouraged for those who are interested.
