Now that 2025 is upon us, we always have those resolutions in mind – I know I have a ton that I would really like to accomplish, such as decluttering my house, cooking more meals at home, and coming up with more funny and interactive content on WDEZ. However, something that I’ve been wanting to improve for a long time is my overall health.
I’m only 27 years old, so I’m not quite seeing gray hair yet (although my kids really test my limits so I’m surprised I haven’t seen one pop through already) but I am starting to feel effects of aging – or at least just poor self care when it comes to my physical well – being.
I’ve always been a “skinny minnie” growing up, my dad is as scrawny as it gets, and my mom is small too. I’m tall, so of course that makes me look even thinner sometimes. After I had my boys (at age 20 and again at age 22) I gained a little weight, but nothing too concerning. That being said, I never even had a thought to go to the gym. I’ve always been HORRIBLE at running or any activity that requires any type of endurance, I was always the last one to cross the finish line when it came to running the mile in gym class or any races at the track meet. However, I’ve always been able to eat and drink whatever I wanted without gaining too much weight.
As you know, I’m a single mom of 2 boys who have an absolute ENDLESS amount of energy. I’m noticing that it’s harder and harder to keep up with them, I feel fatigued almost every day in the afternoons, and it takes me everything to not nap (and sometimes I cave in and I do!) And don’t even get me started on the migraines… Blehhh!
When I was introduced to Eleve Medspa, I didn’t know what to expect. I was nervous at first, because I had never done anything like this program. I never had to be a gym shark because I was never concerned about my weight, but once I talked to the amazing staff at Eleve, they explained to me that getting healthy isn’t just about dropping pounds, it’s about improving the aspects of your mental and physical well – being. But how can we do that if we are all different, and we don’t quite know exactly what we need? I learned quickly that it’s not always “one-size-fits-all”.
With the Vitality program at Eleve, they take numerous scans, tests, assessments, and evaluations to pinpoint what your body is lacking. This in turn helps you to really learn and focus on what your body needs so that you can move forward improving your health – specific to YOUR body!
When I talked to Katrina, she made me feel right at home. She was so sweet and understanding, and it felt like we were old friends. I told her about my insecurities, I told her that I tend to crave sugar, soda, and caffeine. Her response was perfect- “Don’t we ALL!?” That made me feel like I wasn’t alone and there was certainly hope for my journey.
At my first appointment, they did what’s called a “VO2 Max Fitness assessment. And I was NOT expecting this!
They put an oxygen mask on me, had me lay back on a comfy sofa, and even gave me a heated blanket – talk about relaxing! They wanted me as relaxed as possible so that they could measure my breathing, my metabolic rate, etc. at my normal, relaxed, resting state.
Then, they put me on the treadmill and slowly increased the incline little by little. Katrina was wonderful about doing it gradually, and letting me know when it was about to be increased. She didn’t judge at all, and told me that I only needed to go until I couldn’t do it anymore. Needless to say, I didn’t run for very long and I knew I wasn’t in the best shape, regardless of my size.
She told me that there was certainly room for improvement, and that it’s so important to know where our starting point is so that we know exactly what my body needs and the levels it should be at. I can’t wait for my next appointments where they do the DEXA scan and bloodwork. I am so curious to see what my vitamin levels are, how I burn calories, and what toxins I need to work on getting out of my body.
I will be updating my Eleve Journey weekly, so stay tuned! 🙂
