MILWAUKEE, WI (WSAU) – The Milwaukee Bucks have reportedly engaged in trade talks with the Miami Heat as they look at what it’ll cost to add another superstar to their roster.
According to Arizona Sports’ John Gambadoro, both the “Memphis Grizzlies and Milwaukee are teams having ongoing discussions about a trade for Jimmy Butler. Miami weighing if it is better to trade him now or in offseason via sign and trade,” after Butler told members of the media over the weekend that he’d like to be traded in hopes of getting his “joy” back while playing basketball resulting him receiving a seven game suspension from the team.
With a career average of 18.3 points per game and five NBA All-Defensive Second Team selections, the six-time All-Star would be a perfect match for the Bucks as they’ve struggled to find a consistent third scorer and solid wing defender to help Damian Lillard and Giannis Antetokounmpo while Khris Middleton continues to work his way back from off-season ankle surgery.
Gambadoro did not disclose the amount the Bucks would be ready to pay, but it is thought that previous first-round pick MarJon Beauchamp, shooting guard Pat Connaughton, and forward Bobby Portis would be part of the trade.
The Bucks acquiring Butler would be a homecoming for him, as he played collegiate basketball at Marquette from 2008 to 2011. As a sophomore in the 2008-09 season, he averaged 5.6 points and 3.9 rebounds per game. In the 2009–10 season, he joined the starting lineup as a junior and averaged 14.7 points and 6.4 rebounds per game and was named an All-Big East Honorable Mention.
