MADISON, WI (WSAU) — The Badger men set a Kohl Center scoring record in a 116-85 win over Iowa on Friday.
John Blackwell scored a career-high 32 points and grabbed eight rebounds. Nolan Winter scored 18 and also secured eight boards. Steven Crowl added 14, John Tonje dropped 12, and Max Klesmit added eight.
All told 11 players recorded a point in the win including Freshman Daniel Freitag, who scored two points in one minute of action. Issac Gard, son of head coach Greg Gard, also made an appearance at the end of the game.
Wisconsin’s 21 three-point buckets also set a Big Ten Conference single-game record. Blackwell drained six, and eight others connected on at least one. The Badgers were also hot from the free-throw line, going 15/17.
Wisconsin shot 64.5% from the field, including 67.7% from long range. Iowa hit just under 50% of its shots (48.5%), including a pedestrian 37.5% from three. The Hawkeyes were led by Drew Thelwell, who scored 25 points.
Wisconsin outrebounded Iowa 37-21 and doubled up the Hawkeyes in assists, 26-13.
The 116-point outburst was the most by the Badgers since last season’s 105-76 victory over Arkansas State. The last time Wisconsin hit triple digits in conference play was a 101-87 victory over Northwestern in February 1993, back when the league still had 11 teams.
Wisconsin (11-3, 1-2 B1G) visits Rutgers on Monday. Pregame coverage on WSAU begins at 5 PM.
